What is Microsoft Teams Voice?

Claranet Teams Voice brings enterprise telephony directly into Microsoft Teams, allowing your people to make and receive external phone calls from the same application they use for chat, video, and collaboration. It eliminates the need for a separate phone system and a Microsoft Calling Plan licence.

The service works by connecting Microsoft Teams to the Claranet Hosted Voice platform and the global telephone network via SIP trunks and a Claranet-hosted Session Border Controller (SBC) using Microsoft's Direct Routing technology. This gives you carrier-grade voice with the flexibility and familiarity of Teams.

Teams Voice can be deployed as a standalone solution for Teams-only organisations or as part of a hybrid deployment where some users stay on traditional IP phones while others use Teams. Claranet handles the design, build, and ongoing management of the SBC platform, with 24x7x365 support.

Technical capabilities

Deployment flexibility

Choose from MPLS, Internet Only, or Hybrid deployment models. For hybrid environments with standard Hosted Voice users, Claranet MPLS is recommended to protect voice traffic quality across your estate.

Concurrent call licensing

SBC capacity is scaled using a 1:10 ratio of concurrent calls to users. Licences are purchased in packs of 10 as one-off setup costs. A 100-user deployment typically requires 10 concurrent call licences.

Site-level call features

Auto Attendants, ACD Call Queues, Hunt Groups, Call Director, and Holiday Schedules are all available at the site level. These features work across both Teams Voice and Hosted Voice users seamlessly.

Number management

Full support for UK geographic (01/02) and non-geographic (03xx) numbers. Port existing numbers into the platform or provision new ones. Emergency services database registration included for compliance.

User licence tiers

Choose from SIP Trunking (basic), Functional, Fixed, or Mobile user licences depending on feature requirements. Bolt-ons include CRM integration via Go Integrator, Office UC desktop softphone, and more.

Office 365 integration

Claranet is a Microsoft CSP and can provide Office 365 licences alongside Teams Voice. Optional managed administration of your entire Office 365 tenant, including Teams user configuration via PowerShell.
